Situated in the hills between Larkspur and Ross, at the base of Mt. Tamalpais, Kentfield, an unincorporated community, is an upscale town of many elegant homes and upper middle class residents. Affluent Kent Woodlands boasts stunning homes set back from the road, many on large lots with spectacular views. The town has no “downtown” to speak of and the Woodlands Market seems to be the center of activity. Located a mere 10 minutes from Highway 101 and only 25 minutes from San Francisco, the city is easily accessible.
Named for the Kent family who settled there in the late 1800s and became active in conservation causes, Kentfield has a temperate climate and receives more rain in the winter than most other Marin communities. This keeps the town lush and green year round.
The Kent family donated Muir Woods to the public and gave the land on which the College of Marin now stands.
Thanks to the College of Marin, one of the University of California’s community colleges, Kentfield enjoys a thriving cultural atmosphere. The school offers a variety of classes and programs to the public; and maintains a top-notch theater program with first-rate productions.
The Kentfield school district is one of the highest rated school systems in the State. Kent Middle School was listed in the top tenth percentile in the country. This is one of the leading factors that bring families to this sophisticated town. Recreational activities are many with Mt Tamalpais being within walking distance from many locations in town.
